Medications ADHD - Prescribed
Or Natural Treatment?
For both
adults and children who are diagnosed with ADHD,
there are a number of medications that are
commonly prescribed. There are
no singe medications for ADHD that will treat all
patients who suffer from this condition. This is
due to the fact that each patient’s reaction to
ADHD medications will vary. A patient who
suffers from this condition will need to keep
trying different medications until one
works.
For
patients who are diagnosed with ADHD, they are
first prescribed stimulants. Stimulants
will increase activity in the brain. This will
focus specifically on the control of impulse,
focus and attention. Stimulants
have a track record of helping patients to focus
on finishing activities and to regain self
control.
This same treatment however, hasn’t been
found to improve social and academic skills. If the patient
doesn’t react to stimulants, antidepressants and
Atomoxetine may be used next.
Medications ADHD have side effects which
can range from mild to severe. They can
have side effects for those with heart
conditions.
These medications may also have side
effects on children. Such as lose of
appetite, nervousness, and even sleep
disturbances.
There are
also natural treatments for ADHD. Treatment
for this condition is a complicated issue and diet
is one of many factors that play into it. For
example, sugar has been found to not affect
symptoms.
However, it has been proven that artificial
food coloring has an affect. Symptoms
will improve after these artificial food colorings
have been removed from the diet. It has also
been shown that if you take Omega-6 and Omega-3
supplements regularly, it can help to reduce
symptoms.
For
children, the most common reason for ADHD is
genetic.
As much as 75 percent of childhood cases
are due to genetic factors. There are
environment factors that are thought to lead to
the disorder. They
include:
mother smoking
or drinking alcohol during pregnancy, and
premature birth.
